On Thursday, City Council will start working on the budget, but they've already decided how many positions they are willing to fill:
15 more employees for 911, 2 civilians to handle open records, 59 more police officers.
Think about that for a minute. Last year City Council hired 47 more police and this year they've already decided we only need 59. And City Council keeps telling us that this is OK, because Austin is the second safest city in the country. But the truth is property crime is so high, 1 in 19 Austinites will be a victim of crime.
