Dear Austinites for Fair Taxes (AFFT):
This Thursday, May 28 at 4:00 p.m. the City Council will take up the issue of whether to move forward with their challenge of the Travis County Appraisal District appraisals regarding undervalued commercial properties. This is an important step in attempting to push for a more fair property tax system that doesn't end up putting so much of the taxing burden on the shoulders of residential homeowners. Please come to this important City Council meeting to let your City Council know that you support this action. And if you can't come, send your City Council member an e-mail letting them know you support this effort.
As an AFFT member, you know that we value creating a taxing system that is fair for all property owners. This challenge is not about attacking the appraisal district or commercial property owners - but it is about valuing fairness. The first step in moving toward property tax reform is to have a fair taxing system where everyone is paying their fair share. This challenge is a step in that direction.
Please share this information with your friends, neighbors, and neighborhood groups - because those folks who stand to benefit if this challenge does not move forward will also be at City Hall on Thursday. You can also use this link to send your City Council member an e-mail: http://www.austintexas.gov/email/all-council-members.
