_The Greater Austin Crime Commission will sponsor a Crime Watch Safety Fair next Saturday, April 28, 2012, at Reagan High School (7104 Berkman Dr.) from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The event, which is free and open to the public, includes public safety demonstrations, exhibits and workshops.
Hour-long workshops, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., will cover neighborhood crime analyst, patrol and watch training, plus how to host a National Night Out block party.
Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo will discuss how citizens can make their neighborhoods safer at 12:30 p.m.
The Austin Fire Department, Austin Police Department and Austin Independent School District Police Department are scheduled to conduct canine, crime lab, helicopter and kitchen fire safety demonstrations at 1:00 p.m.
Safety Fair exhibitors include the Austin Police Department, Austin Fire Department, CSI: Austin, Greater Austin Crime Commission (401K-9 and Longhorn Leaders) and Travis County Underage Drinking Prevention Program.
(rumor has it that APD's helicopter will be there and the Fire Department will be burning down a kitchen!)
The exhibits and presentation by Chief Acevedo will be located in the Reagan High cafeteria and the demonstrations in the Nelson Field parking lot adjacent to the school.
