An Austin nonprofit in the business of ending homelessness needs hundreds of volunteers this month to help count the number of central Texans living on the streets.
The nonprofit Ending Community Homelessness Coalition or ECHO needs 500 volunteers on Jan. 24 for Point in Time count, an effort happening the same day across the country.
ECHO is gearing up for the 2015 Point in Time Count on January 24th-25th and we need your help! Below is information on the 2015 PIT Count shifts and the link to register:
Our goal is to have 500 volunteers this year! See below for information and spread the word to help us reach our goal!
* Shift 1: Saturday, Jan. 24th from 5 - 8 am furthest parts of the county
* Shift 2: Saturday, Jan. 24th from 5 - 8 am rural/suburban/urban areas
* Shift 3: Saturday, Jan. 25th from 3 - 7 am downtown/urban
The Austin/Travis County Point in Time (PIT) Count is part of the national effort to eliminate street homelessness spearheaded by the federal Departments of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Veterans Affairs (VA). By knowing who is on the street, where they are, and what they need, ECHO and its partner agencies can most effectively target services to those that need them the most.
Teams generally consist of at least three-five members. Volunteers observe and count homeless individuals within a defined area of Austin or Travis County. Volunteers will choose from 3 available shifts.
