We need as many people as possible to go to the meeting and speak in support of the recommendations. Fancy speech not required (unless you want to, that is), you only need to state your name and say you support the equity recommendations in the draft report. Meeting: Austin Energy Generation Task Force Wed, July 9 @ 2:30PM Austin City Hall * Park in the garage; no charge if you remember to get your parking stub stamped. As Carol states in one of the messages below ... If you aren't able to attend July 9, there is a second change on July 21. Meeting: Electric Utility Commmission Wed, July 21 @ 6PM Austin Energy 721 Barton Springs Rd I am a member of the Austin Energy Generation Resource planning Task Force. I have actively worked to get a recommendation to require that 10 percent of energy efficiency program savings benefit customers with household income between 0 and 400% of the Federal Poverty Guideline. See page 8 of the report at this link. The recommendation is in trouble. Some people are claiming that it will cost too much. The conclusions are unfair because the recommendation is set up to develop new program designs that provide better service and lower costs. Please, please, please, get as many people as possible to go to the meeting and speak in support. All people have to say is their name and that they support the equity recommendations in the draft report. Unfortunately I am visiting family and will not be at the meeting. I have sent a request to the task force to ask for a firm 10% goal and to subject all the other recommendations in the report to the same level of scrutiny. In particular I mention a goal to install 200 MW of energy storage. I think a turnout in support of the recommendation will make a difference. If you can't be there yourself please get someone else to go. This recommendation will provide much needed resources to make affordable housing energy efficient.
