Did you know Goodwill Norwood Community Center had a high school for adults? It's called the Excel Center. It opened in August of 2014. And "it’s the first free public charter high school in Texas that provides adults ages 17 to 50 the opportunity to earn their high school diploma, complete an in-demand professional certification, and begin post-secondary education," according to Goodwill Central Texas.
"Specialized learning plans, life coaches, and other services" like "free childcare, English as a Second Language classes, transportation or tuition assistance for industry-recognized certificates or dual enrollment classes at Austin Community College are just some of the ways we empower students to succeed," writes the Excel Center on its website.
A students' newspaper now offers a unique glimpse into the Excel Center students' lives. "Along with poetry and other student writing, The Tower covers news and events important to students and their families, and was created to give them all a voice," announced Goodwill Central Texas on its blog.
