2012 Point-In-Time Homeless Count - Volunteers Needed!
It’s time for the 2012 Point-in-Time Homeless Count. Over 200 volunteers are needed to canvass the city and count/survey individuals experiencing homelessness on Sunday, January 22, 2012 from 3-9pm.
This is an important effort for our community to make sure the voices of our homeless neighbors are heard and efforts are made to provide appropriate services. It’s also a great opportunity to meet and join other enthusiastic community members in a commitment to end homelessness. If you haven’t been involved in the Homeless Count in the past here is a brief description of the importance of this event.
The count is an integral part of the local efforts to end homelessness. The annual survey:Provides a consistent year-to-year measure to help those living in public places move off the streets into permanent housing.Provides local service providers with invaluable statistics to design effective responses and measure their progress towards fighting homelessness.Provides hundreds of Austinites and Travis County residents with an opportunity to volunteer and contribute to the fight against homelessness.
The national results of the 2011 Point-in-Time count can be found at www.endhomelessness.org. More information on local efforts as well as a link to the volunteer registration can be found at www.austinecho.org.
