"For the past five years a group of Aztec descendants in Austin has kept the tradition of their 500-year-old dances alive, culminating in a predawn celebration of Mexico’s patron saint on Dec. 12th.
Javier Flores, 43, founded Danza Azteca Guadalupana Austin out of his trailer home in Northeast Austin. (...)
Flores, his wife, children, and numerous nieces and nephews practice five nights a week from August to December. To build their endurance and prepare to perform outdoor dances in skimpy costumes in mid-December, they rehearse outside the Gus Garcia Recreation Center on East Rundberg Lane."
