APD seeks the public's assistance in locating suspects wanted for impersonating law enforcement.
The Austin Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating two suspects wanted for impersonating law enforcement officers and attempting to get money from a victim.
At this time, APD is aware of one incident where an elderly female was contacted by phone by someone claiming to be a law enforcement officer. While she was on the phone with this person, another suspect claiming to be law enforcement showed up at her residence. The suspect produced a badge and took the victim to her bank. He attempted to get her to withdraw money from her account under the guise of conducting a criminal investigation.
The second suspect is described as:
40 to 50 years of age
Dressed in plain clothes
Average height and build
Spoke fluent English with no accent
The Austin Police Department would like to remind citizens:
Officers will not ask you to withdraw money from your bank account
Do not ever give out your personal or financial information
If you are ever in fear or unsure if somebody is law enforcement call 9-1-1 and ask for a uniformed APD officer to respond to your location for verification
APD is asking anyone with information about this crime or who may be a victim to please call 9-1-1 to make a report.
