City Council has really outdone themselves this time in their onging quest to take care of downtown's special requests at the expense of other neighborhoods in this city.
If you are sick and tired of the break-ins and burglaries that we are all experiencing, well guess what? City Council is out to take away a good chunk of our community policing program. That's right, the district reps - those cops who help us shut down drug houses, and help us make sure the areas around schools are safe for kids and pedestrians, and who encourage businesses to be responsible to help drive down crime on our corridors - 9 of those cops are now going to be sent downtown instead.
Why are they gutting the community policing programs for our neighborhoods? Because downtown wants Town Lake trails to have no curfew and downtown doesn't want to allocate any of their cops to police the trails.
Maybe its time we change our motto to reflect the brutal truth:
Austin - Live Car Burglary Capital of the World!!
At least then people would know you come to Austin to get robbed, not to have a good time and enjoy our city.
