For musicians, Rowling said that concerns about affordability were the most pressing. The census notes that the rising cost of living in Austin and the development of expensive condos and apartments in the central city are forcing out musicians and others in the industry.
“It really does appear that we are at a tipping point, particularly in terms of musicians. We have lost a number of them already,” said Rowling. - See more at: http://www.austinmonitor.com/stories/2015/06/austin-music-census-reveals-fault-lines-in-industry/#sthash.Og02bbld.dpuf Entire report is here: www.austintexas.gov/sites/default/files/files/Austin_Music_Census_Interactive_PDF_53115.pdf The map on page 189 is especially troubling, with a very low response from musicians in the outer ring, showing again the City's ongoing refusal to engage and hold meetings for those living in outer core.

St. Albert the Great Catholic Church 12041 Bittern Hollow "Council Member Leslie Pool is hosting a Town Hall event to discuss important issues in the North Austin community. This event will be the first of a series of town halls for District 7. In attendance will be representatives from the City's Budget Department, CapMetro and First Responder Teams, among others. We hope you can participate!" The City Council Housing and Community Development Committee took a small step forward Wednesday toward funding affordable housing within the Homestead Preservation District in Central East Austin and possibly elsewhere. However, committee members did not pick a financing mechanism and still have questions about how much such a district would cost.

"I love the people, that's probably the best thing," explained neighbor Rigel Thurston.
The walks give neighbors an opportunity to get to know each other and their neighborhood.... Thurston is co-president of the recently created neighborhood association, Georgian Acres. He started the walking group last November in an effort to take back the streets that were once known for prostitution and drugs. www.kvue.com/story/news/local/2015/04/13/neighbors-walk-for-change-in-crime-ridden-neighborhood/25691237/ Go Rigel and Georgian Acres!! |
