Below, please find a status update on the trail projects that comprise the overall Walnut Creek Trail System:
Northern Walnut Creek Trail - Phase 1A 5261.004
A portion of the Phase 1 project west of Mopac has been removed from the existing construction contract and established as the Phase 1A subproject. This change was made so that federal funds would not be used within areas regulated by the Corp of Engineers and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. The use of federal funds in these areas requires additional permitting and oversight and proceeding without federal funds will save the City time and reduce the overall project cost.
This project consists of the design and construction of a new trail from Amherst Drive to the new northern end point of the Phase 1 project and a connection to the Mopac Trail currently being built by the Regional Turnpike Authority. This trail will consist of a 10' wide concrete trail with 2' shoulders. The trail will have retaining walls to maintain an acceptable slope, storm water facilities to accommodate existing drainage patterns and will have environmental protections to safeguard existing protected species and sensitive areas.
Northern Walnut Creek Trail - Phase 1 5261.001
This project consists of the design and construction of a new trail within the Walnut Creek Greenbelt. The trail will span from Mopac south to Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park, the northern end point of the Phase 2 trail project. Construction will consist of a 10' wide concrete trail with 2' shoulders. The trail will have approximately 9 creek crossings and 4 trail heads.

It will be around 1.8 miles in length and will consist of a 12' wide concrete trail, approximately 4 creek crossings and 2 trail heads.
