Please join Save Austin's Cemeteries for our Book Bash (formal release of our first book) and Open House!
Austin's Historic Oakwood Cemetery: Under the Shadow of the Texas Capitol – Save Austin’s Cemeteries has compiled this volume of narratives and photographs that creates connections from Austin's historical past to the city we all know and love today.
Books will be available for sale during the event at a special price ($15 – cash or check), and we’ll have snacks and coffee for visitors. A handful of small tours will be given by our historians, and SAC volunteers will be on hand to assist with self-guided cemetery tours.
Saturday, July 12th, 9am-noon
1601 Navasota Street
All proceeds from book sales will benefit cemetery preservation projects.
To our knowledge, no other such publication exists, and we feel it is an important addition to the accounts of Austin’s history. And the timing seems especially appropriate with another important first occurring—the Parks and Recreation Department’s current initiative to develop a much-needed Cemetery Master Plan. We’d love for you to drop by and help us celebrate!
Thanks very much,
