From Council Member Zimmerman (District 6): Old Lampasas Trail, transportation improvements, and events
Old Lampasas Trail Victory!
For the first time in known Austin history, the City Council resisted the temptation to annex a community! Congratulations to the residents of Old Lampasas Trail, outside the City limits, who worked many hours to maintain their independence. “The City needs to be careful about which properties it annexes,” said District 6 City Council member Don Zimmerman. “We are spending $60 million to buy out Onion Creek -- even though it did not make sense to annex these 10 properties that have flooding issues with no plan from the City to mitigate those issues.”
Right-turn lane to be added at
Anderson Mill and 183
At a recent Mobility Committee meeting, Council Member Zimmerman seconded an amendment from Council member Sheri Gallo to allow each member of the City Council to identify $1.9 million in their own district to be used for transportation improvement. This passed 4-0 and will go to the full Council in December. Zimmerman will be working with Staff to identify additional projects in District 6 like adding a right-turn lane at Anderson Mill Road onto southbound 183.
District 6 Town Hall -- Saturday, Nov. 21
Our next Town Hall meeting will double as a canned food drive – please bring a can or two. Discussion will focus on the city's Quarter-Cent Fund (which would pay for the Anderson Mill right-turn lane), Transportation Network Companies (like Uber and Lyft), and Short-Term Rentals. We'll gather from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 9700 Neenah Ave., Austin. (Note: We will not have a town hall in December – but see below for several Christmastime events.)
